I love my Prius

So I've been driving my Prius for about three months now and I must say that I LOVE IT! Here's why (not in order of importance):

1. with my old Passat, I had to fill up with super-unleaded gas once a week. 12 gallons of super unleaded gas=$$$! Now I fill up with gas about every two weeks, 9 gallons of REGULAR gas that generally costs less than $30. Less money spent on gasoline is less money sent to Iran and Saudi Arabia.

2. The Prius has forced me to think about HOW I drive as well as how much I drive. I accelerate more slowly, definitely try to get into the pulse-and-glide mode, and make a game of upping my gas mileage. So far I haven't managed to get over 45.5 mpg, but I am trying!

3. I will admit that driving the Prius is not NEARLY as much fun as the Passat. I can't power around other cars or zip onto the freeway anymore. That IS kind of a drag. However, did I mention 45 mpg? I can SO live without the zip. I'll leave that to the teenage boys in their raised trucks. Besides, if I need to climb a hill, the Prius can do it handily. and did I mention 45 mpg?

4. Although I have REALLY been trying to avoid the Prius "smug" factor, I will admit that I mentally make notes about every raised truck or frenzied teenager zipping down the road. I try to keep the smug factor as an internal dialogue. However, I continue to freely and openly hate on Hummers, which I did even before I owned the Prius.

5. Finally, this new car has a hook-up for my iPod! No more burning CDs just to play in the car! This may seem like an insignificant point, but I LOVE my music, and now it is sooooo much more convenient.

6. I love sneaking up on people when I'm in EV model. I feel futuristic, like I drive a car from "Gattaca."

7. Did I mention 45 mpg??

  1. Sigh Trish, you know I love you, which is why I can call this response "Reasons why I'd hate my Prius"

Yeah, yeah I fill up about the same only because my commute is shorter and in case you hand't noticed, almost ALL of our money is going to Iran and Saudi Arabia these days

I got 45 mpg on my toyota tercel-standard 4 speed transmission that worked like a dream. here are many current economy cars that get better gas mileage than a prius

Believe me, your smug factor was always way stronger than any hummer factor. Carry on.

NOT insignificant at all, currently gelling in jealousy as my f-ing piece-'0'sh-t- lexus doesn't offer the same port option.

These day it's much more about looking like you're from Gattaca than actually being from Gattaca

  2. ok missy, here is my rejoinder:
    1. My passat died and I got the Prius (over a regular economy car) because my driving is almost ENTIRELY stop and go city driving. No regular car can get even close to my prius mileage in the city. The Honda Fit came the closest.
    2. I do totally miss driving a stick shift, but I am driving slower nowadays. Less shifting for the pure joy of it, but also better gas mileage.
    3. I live in the land of raised trucks. I am allowed a little bit of smug. It's not like I live in the bay area!
4.yes, you must have good music.
    5. Given how little I drive (less than 10,000 miles a year) and how much of it is stop-and-go city traffic, I think I'd be ultimately better off with an electric car. Riverside has been something of a leader in weaning us off of coal-based plants to alternative energy.
    6. you know, I live in an area that basically has no real "weather." I don't need a car to power me up mountains, through treacherous rain or snowstorms. I just needed a new car that wouldn't break down on the side of the road.
and then Toyota was offering some crazy lease deals. how could I say no??
